A Book Review of:
E-Myth Mastery:
The Seven Essential Disciplines for Building a World Class Company

Author: Michael E. Gerber
Published: 2006, HarperCollins

Review: Working professionally in a variety of businesses settings teaches you quickly that every organization has its quirks and dysfunctions.  The dysfunctions are certainly a distraction and they result in low productivity and employee morale.

For years I've been complaining to myself about so-and-so, and how they aren't doing their job.  But wait... just exactly what is their job?  Do I know?  Do they know?  Ask 5 people in that department, and you are guaranteed to get 5 different answers!  Imagine now that the entire company you work at consists of hundreds and maybe thousands of people working their day job, who have never really reached an understanding of what they should be doing to be successful!  Sound familiar?

Enter the world of Michael E. Gerber and E-Myth Mastery.  This book clears the air by concisely defining each of 7 major job functions that do (or should) exist in every company:

  • Enterprise Leader
  • Marketing Leader
  • Financial Leader
  • Management Leader
  • Client Fulfillment Leader
  • Lead Conversion Leader
  • Lead Generation Leader

Not only are each job's responsibilities defined, but a full discussion is included on how to properly perform each job and how to measure if the job is being done properly.  Just imagine what kind of business you would have if the Marketing Leader really knew and actually did his or her job!  And imagine how many satisfied repeat customers you would have if the Client Fulfillment Leader was spot on in delivering your products and services!

This is by far the best well-rounded business book that I have ever encountered.  After reading it thoroughly, I have concluded that in 22 years of professional work, there are still some job functions that I have never seen executed properly.  This is an astounding commentary on the state of the average business process.  It had me thinking that there has got to be a better way, and thankfully there is.  E-Myth Mastery explains it all in detail.

Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.  It turned my business world upside down by giving me the correct perspective on roles, responsibilities, and measures of success in most any corporate organization.

Get your copy today, read it, internalize it, and start applying it.  You'll be glad you did, and your business will stand head and shoulders above the competition.
